April to June is the peak tourist season in Pahalgam. This is the summer season, and also the best time to visit Pahalgam. Temperatures range from 11 degrees to 25 degrees Celsius. The overall weather is pleasant. Evenings can be a bit cold, but days are warm. You can do most outdoor activities like trekking, sightseeing, and shopping during the day very comfortably.
July to August is another best season to visit Pahalgam.
This is also the Amarnath Yatra season when tourists from all over India make the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave. September and October are also the best time to visit Pahalgam.
Pahalgam – the base for Amarnath Yatra
The town of Pahalgam is the base for pilgrims to take the Amarnath Yatra. Pahalgam is a very scenic place with lush green meadows, deodar and pine forests, and snow-capped Himalayan peaks in the far distance.
Pahalgam Golf Course is a major attraction in Pahalgam. It is also called Lidder Valley Golf Course. You can play a round of golf here or take golf lessons. Betaab Valley is a tourist’s favorite place.
Pony rides, nature walks, and sightseeing are the major activities you can do here. Lidder River flows in Pahalgam. Pahalgam is also the starting point for various treks to Kolahoi Glacier, Sheshnag Lake, and Aru Valley.
Which are the other seasons to visit Pahalgam?
Apart from April to June, and July to August, you can visit Pahalgam from September to October. We do not advise you to visit Pahalgam during July and August if you are not going for Amarnath Yatra. This is because there is a huge rush of pilgrims, hotels are overbooked, and you will not enjoy sightseeing during this season.
But September and October are best for tourism in Pahalgam as days are warm and there are fewer crowds of tourists. Days are sunny and nights can be a bit cold.
December to February and March are the coldest season in Pahalgam. This is wintertime in Pahalgam and there is heavy snowfall here. Temperatures can dip to minus zero degrees Celsius. We would advise you to visit Pahalgam only if you can endure the bitter cold.
