Nandi Parvat

Nandi Parvat is one of the places that every tourist wants to go to during their Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Nandi Parvat is a mountain that is very close to Mount Kailash. This mountain has a deep mythological connection with Mount Kailash and Hindu mythology. Hindus regard this mountain to be Nandi, the bull. The unique formation of this mountain is shaped in such a way that it looks like the shape and hump of the bull, Nandi. This mountain is so sacred that devotees do a small Nandi Parikrama along with the Kailash Inner Kora. Nandi Parvat is one of the important places in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Devotees usually perform a Nandi kora on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. They go on a circumambulation of Nandi Parvat. The route has many religious places that are devoted to Hindu gods and goddesses. Nandi Inner Kora is like a holy pilgrimage around Nandi Parvat. The places that come on this route are Kuber Kund, Ashtaparbat, Kailashi Gange, Dakshinamurti Shivalaya, Atmalingam, Astamatrikagan Parbat, and Saptrishi Caves.

Nandi the Bull is the divine vehicle of Lord Shiva. It is also a very sacred bull and Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is considered incomplete without a parikrama of Nandi Parvat. Nandi the Bull is usually seen along with Lord Shiva. When Lord Shiva is deep in meditation he cannot hear the prayers of his devotees. It is then, that Nandi the Bull listens to the prayers of devotees and passes on the messages to Lord Shiva. Nandi is also considered to be the Gatekeeper to Lord Shiva.

The mythology of Nandi Parvat

Nandi is a mythological character from Hindu mythology and scriptures. Nandi is a bull that is highly devoted to Lord Shiva. He is so important that you will find a statue of Nandi the Bull in every Shiva temple in the world. Nandi was born to Kashyap and Surbhi. Nandi soon became well-versed and knowledgeable in scriptures and religious texts that by the age of 7 he was more learned than any other person on earth. One day, it so happened that Varuna and Mitra visited Kashyap and Surbhi.

They blessed Nandi, but to the astonishment of Kashyap and Surbhi, they prophesized that Nandi would not live beyond 8 years of age. Nandi decided to worship Lord Shiva and hoped to get a boon from Shiva. Lord Shiva was very happy with the devotion of Nandi and appeared before him. Shiva gave a necklace and put a magic bell around Nandi.

Nandi was immediately transformed into half human and half bull. Lord Shiva blessed him and said that henceforth, Nandi would be his vehicle. In this way, Nandi is also a very special deity that is worshipped before Lord Shiva. He is the chief of all the ganas. Nandi has the power to grant the boons and wishes of its devotees.
